What is an HS code?

The 6-digit product number that customs authorities in 200+ countries use to classify goods. Every duty rate, trade statistic and import declaration hangs off it. Why do official portals fail my search?

They match only the legal wording. A phone charger is a "static converter" (8504.40), sneakers are "sports footwear with outer soles of rubber" (6404.11). Our search layer maps plain product names onto the official texts, then shows you those official texts.

Which code do I actually put on the form?

The importing country's full code. Importing to the US: the 10-digit HTS number. Importing to the UK: the 10-digit commodity code. Each code page here shows both, plus the duty columns, with links to the official rulings services for binding decisions.
