What is an HS code?

The 6-digit product number that customs authorities in 200+ countries use to classify goods. Every duty rate, trade statistic and import declaration hangs off it. Countries extend the 6 harmonized digits to 8 or 10 for their own schedules: the US HTS code and the UK commodity code both begin with the same HS digits. Full guide →

Why do official portals fail my search?

They match only the legal wording. A phone charger is a "static converter" (8504.40), sneakers are "sports footwear with outer soles of rubber" (6404.11). Our search layer maps plain product names onto the official texts, then shows you those official texts.

Which code do I actually put on the form?

The importing country's full code. Importing to the US: the 10-digit HTS number. Importing to the UK: the 10-digit commodity code. Each code page here shows both, plus the duty columns, with links to the official rulings services for binding decisions.

How do I find the HS code for my product?

Search by plain product name (like laptop, sneakers or phone charger) or by code number. Official portals only match the legal wording, which is why searching "charger" there finds nothing: the schedule calls it a static converter. Our search maps everyday product names to the right headings.

Are HS codes the same in every country?

The first 6 digits are harmonized worldwide. Beyond that, each country adds its own digits: the US uses 10-digit HTS codes, the UK and EU use 8 to 10 digit commodity codes. The duty rate always depends on the full code of the importing country.

Is this lookup free?
